Navy Festival Regatta 2009-03-29

The Navy festival regatta is the biggest development regatta in the country. The event attracted entrants from Hout Bay, Zeekoevlei and Saldanah, however as usual it was the local students from Izivunguvungu MSC Foundation for Youth who took the top positions on their home waters.

2009 Salvador Race – The Izivunguvungu MSC Foundation for Youth Team 4th overall.

Izivunguvungu, who in 2007, restored the famous Voortrekker yacht, has successfully achieved a iconic achievement in the History of Offshore sailing. Voortrekker formally associated, in the old South Africa, with the sailing legends Bertie Reed and John Martin, was this time sailed by a fully development crew. The whole crew (Including skippers and watchcaptains) has originated and been trained by Izivunvuvungu MSC Foundation, they successfully completed the Cape to Salvador yacht race.

Success at Cowes Week - SA Team placed 8th out of 80 boats

Two Izivunguvungu sailors, Wandisile Xayimpi and Renoldo Mohale competed in Cowes week and were on the team that came 8th in the Laser SB3 Class on City of Cape Town

MSC Week in Durban

The MSC Donna Mia Always team failed to defend their title as L26 National Champions losing by one point to local favorites Zephyr. The team was co-skippered by Izivungu senior students, Asenathi Jim and Marlon Jones (2007 and 2008 420 National Champions), the team was coordinated by Wandisile Xayimpi who is also a senior student. They were using the event as preparation for the Lipton Challenge, which will be held in Table Bay at the end of August.
